The Amarnath Yatra is one of the most sacred pilgrimages for Hindus. Every year, lakhs of devotees trek through the Himalayas to witness the Ice Lingam. It is not just a spiritual journey but also a test of physical endurance.

Yatra Dates 2026
The Yatra usually begins in late June or early July and concludes on Shravan Purnima (Raksha Bandhan) in August. The official dates are announced by the Shrine Board (SASB).
Registration & Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC)
Registration is mandatory.
- Step 1: Get a Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC) from an authorized doctor/hospital in your state.
- Step 2: Apply online on the SASB website or visit designated bank branches (PNB, SBI, etc.).
- Step 3: Obtain the Yatra Permit (RFID Card is also issued upon arrival).
Choosing Your Route
There are two ways to reach the Holy Cave:
1. Baltal Route (The Short & Steep One)
- Distance: 14km trek (one way).
- Duration: Can be completed in 1 day (round trip).
- Difficulty: Very steep and difficult. Not recommended for elderly.
2. Pahalgam (Chandanwari) Route (The Traditional One)
- Distance: 36-48km trek.
- Duration: Takes 3-5 days.
- Difficulty: Longer but gradual slope. Scenic and spiritually significant (Sheshnag, Panchtarni).
Helicopter Booking
Helicopter services are available from Baltal (Neelgrath) and Pahalgam to Panjtarni. From Panjtarni, it is a 6km walk to the cave.
